Irrespective of the nature of an organisation, whether this be a commercial or public services entity, the one constant that all are subjected to is change, which is predominantly caused by changes in internal and external forces. However, as most organisations, including the UK police force, will have developed a specific organisational culture over time, the manner in which such changes need to be implemented within the cultural environment that exists is critical to its successful outcome

This paper is focused on examining the process of change and the factors that may inhibit its successful implementation within an organisation. Using the UK police force as a case study, the essay identifies the elements and component parts of the organisation, which, unless appropriately addressed, can create barriers within the change process and it intention to move smoothly from its preexisting state to the post change strategic objective
