Overview

The aim of the current study, through the combined analysis of the latest economic findings, was to endeavour to provide a reasoned assessment of the total economic cost of drug abuse in the UK.

According to the news media, in 2006 it was estimated that around 10% of the UK population were taking banned substances (BBC News 2006a). It will be apparent that at this level of population drug participation and the prevalence of dependency, that drug abuse will have a significant socio economic impact on the UK.
