Overview

Marks and Spencer Plc is one of the UK’s major high street retailers of fashion and grocery, and has a corporate history that dates back to the early part of twentieth-century. However, as our report will show, during the period being studied (2000-2006) the business experienced some turbulent times.

With M&S experiencing trading difficulties in the early part of the first decade of the twenty-first century, this report sets out with the objective of analysing the factors that contributed to is near failure during this period and those that contributed to the revival of its fortunes post 2005. To facilitate this aim, the report examined the historical activity of the business in relation to is market performance within its  relevant retail sectors, stock market reaction and the extent to which the factors identified influenced the financial results Of the corporation.
