Overview

Globalisation, lower transportation costs and the latest developments in technology, have all combined to improve both the knowledge available regarding new destinations and the benefits available to tourists from visiting these locations> However, this expansion of the international tourism model has given rise to increased concerns over the sustainability of these new destinations, their environment and culture 

The aim of the current paper is to examine how the path of research into tourism has changed from simply examining how to provide competitive advantage for destinations and operators in the tourism sector to become more focused on studying the various factors that stakeholders need to consider as part of the development of an ethical stance, which is intended to improve the sustainability of the destination, its community and natural habitat..
