It can be argued that security management had received a lower relative research priority in the literature than other areas of corporate management. However, following the catastrophic events of 9-11 in the USA and the 7/7 event in the UK, this has resulted in a significant increase of studies focused on examining corporate security issues and their effective management and prevention (Sennewald 2011)

The purpose of this research paper was to evaluate and examine whether to fulfil the requirements of this role, security mangers need to acquire additional managerial capabilities and knowledge. Following an overview of the security issues faced by corporation, and an examination of the various elements of the security managers roles and responsibilities, it is considered that the outcome of the study will confirm that managers appointed to this role will need to develop a high level of specialist skills are also essential to fulfil its requirements.
